UFC 278 comes with all kinds of exciting matches, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship lands for the first time in Salt Lake City, Utah at Vivint Arena on August 20, 2022.

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is aiming to defend his title for the sixth time in a row by going up against a former foe at no. 2 ranked Leon Edwards in the main event of the night.

We also have a stellar bantamweight matchup between the former WEC and UFC featherweight champion on several occasions, no. 3 ranked Jose Aldo, who takes on the no. 6 ranked Merab Dvalishvili. Dude, this is going to be a good one!

Another exciting fight that is expected to take place at this event involves the lightweight division between Leonardo Santos and Jared Gordon.

Leo Santos came to the UFC in June 2013 with an 11-3 record, claiming The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil II championship with a second-round submission (arm-triangle choke) over teammate William Macario.

He would follow that up with a draw against fellow TUF champion Norman Parke, before winning his next six straight matches against fellow TUF champion in Efrain Escudero (UD), Anthony Martin (naked back choke), Kevin Lee (TKO), Adriano Martins (SD), Stevie Ray (KO) and Roman Bogatov (UD).

There were a few times in that streak, however, where he would have had to sit out for years due to injuries and canceled fight bookings, and he would have suffered back-to-back losses after that first eight-fight undefeated run as a that well, losing to Grant Dawson (KO) and Clay Guida (rear naked choke).

Santos was absolutely dominating Guida early on and nearly got the first-round TKO stoppage multiple times in this fight. However, the fight was not stopped, although perhaps it should have been, and he blew his wad looking for the finish, being submitted in the second round, making the result one of the biggest upheavals of 2021.

Santos is one of the most decorated BJJ fighters in the entire sport of mixed martial arts, but this shows you that once you get tired, everything you know goes away.

Jared Gordon, meanwhile, arrived at the UFC in June 2017 with a 12-1 record as CFFC featherweight champion. After back-to-back wins inside the octagon in his freshman and sophomore efforts, he would lose back-to-back outings in his next two fights, both by knockout.

Gordon followed that up with a win over Dan Moret (UD), before being knocked out by future, current UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

Since then, however, Gordon has gone 3-1, beating the likes of former Cage Warriors multiple-time lightweight champion Chris Fishgold (UD), Danny Chavez (UD) and Joe Solecki (SD), losing his last fight against Grant Dawson. (naked rear choke), a fight he looked very good in.

Both of these men lost to Dawson, and both at the very end of the fight; Santos being finished at 4:59 of the third round, and Gordon being finished at 4:11 of the third round, just an interesting fact.

How do you see this stellar lightweight match go down?

Mateusz Gamrot and Arman Tsarukyan hosted the Fighting Kind Saturday at Apex in Las Vegas which is an introduction to all things great about mixed martial arts. It was fast with wild scrambles, big strikes, top level wrestling and grappling and an intensity you rarely see for a full 25 minutes.

Gamrot won a unanimous decision in a fight that showed the unreal depth of the UFC lightweight division. Tsarukyan entered the fight ranked 11th and Gamrot 12th, and after watching them fight so fiercely for five rounds, it’s hard to believe there are 10 fighters in the division better than them.

Gamrot trailed 20-18 after two rounds, but swept the bottom three on all three judges’ scorecards to make the decision.

Only a split decision loss to Guram Kutateladze in 2020 prevents Gamrot from being 22-0 as a professional. Tsarukyan fell to 18-3 in suffering his first loss since a 2019 decision loss to Islam Makhachev.

Tsarukyan controlled the fight early with his kicks to the body. There were a lot of quick scrambles early in the fight, but neither man had an advantage. But as the fight progressed, Gamrot’s wrestling became more of a factor.

It was such an advantage in the second half of the fight that during the rest period after the fourth round, Tsarukyan’s corner pressed him: “No more wrestling!”

Tsarukyan had a 95-81 advantage in important strikes, but Gamrot had six takedowns to Tsarukyan’s one. Four of those eliminations – two each – came in the final two rounds for Gamrot.

Gamrot’s strike, however, was more accurate. He landed 58% of his big shots to Tsarukyan’s 38% and connected an unbelievably high 20 of 25 in the fifth round. Tsarukyan, on the other hand, landed 23 of 54 in the last.

“It was a very tough fight,” Gamrot said. “It was high-level MMA.”

Tsarukyan dropped Gamrot with a back first lap early in the fourth, but Gamrot recovered quickly and got back to his feet. This was a turning point as Gamrot’s wrestling skills took over the fight from that point on.

Gamrot had Tsarukyan’s back at the end of the fourth, and had Tsarukyan’s knee awkwardly tucked under him, but Tsarukyan got away with it.

“I do not know what happened [because] this camp was very good,” Tsarukyan said. “I don’t know. I have to show a better fight than this.

Gamrot capped off an incredible fight by releasing a surprising caption. He asked for number 3 Justin Gaethje, who is coming off a loss to Charles Oliveira.

The fight won’t happen mainly because Gaethje is so much higher ranked than him, and the winner of the July 9 fight between No. 7 Rafael dos Anjos and No. 10 Rafael Fiziev might be a more logical next opponent for him. .

But you can’t blame him for reaching for the stars after his spectacular performance.

“Now I want to fight Justin Gaethje,” Gamrot said. “Justin Gaethje is the most brutal guy in the division so I want to fight him next.”

Colombia will have two athletes competing for gold medals at the 2022 Pan American Championships. The nation entered the competition with a team of eight athletes and is expected to walk away with at least six medals at the end of the competition.

One of the most notable has been Mateo Lara, who is the team’s most experienced athlete as he nears the twenty-game mark in his amateur career. Despite so much experience, the Pan American Championships was his first experience of competing overseas, which he is grateful for. He said:

“I feel very honored to have the opportunity to fight in Mexico since it’s my first time in a foreign cage. The people here are very friendly and very hospitable. Excellent people and athletes, I feel very happy .

He went on to add that his experience is a winning factor but not the main reason.

“Experience will always be a deciding factor. But more the heart and love I have for this sport.

Growing up in Colombia was not always easy for Lara. He directed his anger the wrong way and got into quite a few fights. However, after discovering martial arts, he took his life in a different direction and now aspires to be like Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor and Cody Garbrandt.

“Since I was a little boy, I liked to fight, but in my school life I directed it negatively. I was a problematic boy. Lara said. “In the past, in every situation, I looked for a fight. Really, I’m not afraid and I feel alive when I fight. After turning 18, I thought differently; about legal implications or worst case scenario, death.

“Through my current trainer Mauricio Daza, I met Professor César Moreno, who trained me from scratch and showed me the way to martial arts. Today I just want to contribute to society and to show people with stories similar to mine that there is another path, the path of good.

Ahead of his gold medal match with Mexico’s Jaime Sierra, he expects some exciting competition.

“Always expect a war from me. Whoever wants to beat me must be ready to die. I don’t like easy fights and my rival is definitely a great fighter. From the beginning, I wanted to fight him, and now we will do it in the final. I am excited.”

The Colombian athlete is very advanced in his amateur career and has not yet decided what his next step will be, but teased the idea of competing in the World Championships.

“If I can count on the economic means without thinking twice, I will go to the World Championships. I will only turn pro if I get a good offer outside my country.

If all goes according to plan tomorrow, Colombia could have two new Pan American champions on their hands and the first IMMAF gold medals for the country. Regardless of the results, it was a spectacular performance from Colombia. All of tomorrow’s action will be available internationally on immaf.tv and in Mexico (only) on Facebook, starting at 11am (UTC-5) local time with an estimated runtime of 5 hours.

Mikuru Asakura didn’t hide behind any bravado when he explained his reasons for accepting a fight with Floyd Mayweather on RIZIN.

The Japanese mixed martial arts star heads into the fall event knowing the chips are stacking firmly against him.

Speaking as Mayweather dominated a media room, Asakura expressed his views on taking a one-sided challenge before trying to intimidate the five-weight world champion during the one-on-one.

“I am an MMA fighter. But I’m going to take this opportunity and use Floyd Mayweather to get my name out there. Also, my international value,” Asakura said with disconcerting honesty.

He added shyly, ironically, “I’m going to win this fight.”

Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the CEO of RIZIN and the man who organized the event, can’t wait to see how the clash unfolds.

“I am very happy to be sitting between these two athletes and to announce our second fight with Floyd Mayweather on RIZIN and against Mikuru Asakura.

“Mayweather was supposed to fight in Japan before the pandemic. But unfortunately it was postponed. Now, RIZIN is excited to lead this fight in September.

Asakura isn’t the only one enjoying Mayweather’s global appeal.

“I am very excited to work with Floyd Mayweather. But not just for this fight but in the future. We look at the big picture to create more exciting content on our platform. »

Floyd Mayweather RIZIN

Mayweather plans to build on the fun sensation that was a breath of fresh air against Don Moore in Abu Dhabi.

“Money” held up ring cards, spoke to the crowd and was in a jovial mood as he towered over his former sparring partner.

To build on that momentum, he said: “I’ve had so many great days competing at the highest level. But it’s a great feeling now to be able to travel the world, do these exhibition fights and have fun.

“My legacy is already set in stone. It’s great to be able to entertain people from all over the world and from all walks of life.

Israel Adesanya is chomping at the bit to get revenge on Alex Pereira. The reigning middleweight champion is even ready to fight his former rival despite criticism that ‘Poatan’ is far too inexperienced in MMA to challenge for a UFC title.

At an Australian UFC 276 press conference, Adesanya was asked to weigh in on a potential fight with Pereira or Sean Strickland. In response, “The Last Stylebender” said:

“I’m looking forward to either of these fights. I don’t like this narrative like ‘Oh, it’s too fast for [Alex Pereira].’ But look, Jiri [Prochazka] just fought for the belt and won the belt in his third UFC fight. I think Anderson [Silva] did it in the second fight. So it’s okay, he’s new to MMA. I’ve been in this game for a long time.”

Adesanya also spoke about his knockout loss to Pereira from the time they fought under the Glory banner. ‘The Last Stylebender’ hinted at how well he was doing against the Brazilian before the finish. The UFC No. 3-ranked pound-for-pound fighter added:

“This TikTok generation has a 15 second memory so they forget. All they see is the knockout but they didn’t watch the first fight or even watch the second fight until it was over. It’s not kickboxing, it’s mixed martial arts. And it’s not big pillow gloves; it’s deadly four-ounce weapons and I can’t wait to face it after I go through Jared Cannonier.”

Alex Pereira promises to take Israel Adesanya’s belt

Alex Pereira is convinced he has Israel Adesanya’s number, whether in the ring or in the cage. The promising Brazilian believes that if he fought Adesanya in the UFC, the outcome would be similar to their first two encounters.

Pereira also made it clear that his goal is to become a UFC champion whether or not he has to fight Adesanya for the belt. In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMAthe promising UFC middleweight said:

“Well, if the fight is tomorrow, me and [Israel Adesanya]Absolutely [I would beat him]. But I know I just got into the organization, I have a path to follow here before I get the belt. My goal is to become world champion. So whether he’s there or not, that’s where I’m coming from. Let’s see who’s there by the time I get there. But when I’m there and he’s still there, I won’t be afraid to take his belt. The one who has to worry is him because I’ve already beaten him twice.”

Roger said, “It’s an interesting thing, the commitment people have to an android. When they have it, they’re like, no f**k you. I stick to my guns. And when they give in, they give in. Many of them give in.

He then jokingly asked Dustin Poirier, “Does your wife have an iPhone?” When Poirier said yes, Rogan said, “it is a problem,” and they laughed that he can’t take AirDrop photos with his wife.

Joe Rogan has been in the professional mixed martial arts business for almost two decades and has seen a lot of fighting techniques and styles in the octagon. Whenever we see good body and leg kicks in the octagon, we always see a good reaction from Rogan. Rogan loves leg kicks and also knows the damage a powerful kick can do in a fight.

Andre Ward could apparently end his retirement to box Jake Paul.

Floyd Mayweather noted at a press event, announcing his upcoming exhibition fight, that he had recently spoken to Ward, who noted that he would be interested in fighting younger brother Paul.

The interest apparently sparked after Ward saw Mayweather box his older brother Logan Paul on the pay-per-view (PPV) last year.

“I spoke to Andre Ward, if you saw us speak on stage at the International Boxing Hall of Fame,” Mayweather said, via Global Circulate. “Andre Ward was talking to me and he said he wanted to do, or he didn’t mind doing an exhibition against Jake Paul.”

Ward is one of the greatest talents boxing has ever seen, retiring in 2017 after racking up an unbeaten record of 32-0. He has held titles in the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.

At 38, Ward would undoubtedly be the toughest obstacle in Paul’s fledgling boxing career. Jake Paul made his professional boxing debut against another YouTube star in 2020 and followed that up with a fight against ex-NBA star Nate Robinson later that year, winning both by knockout.

Paul then began feuding with mixed martial arts (MMA) stars Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. He would knock them both out, fighting Woodley twice; initially defeating him by decision in their first fight before scoring the finish in their rematch.

He quickly became one of the hottest names in boxing, with several notable names calling him in hopes of scoring a payday. At an unblemished 5-0, Paul would be pushed like never before into a potential fight with Ward.

Vargas’ vision and plan sound very interesting as it will bring production through multiple streaming outlets as well as cable TV, which seems to have stopped covering live fights in recent years. Eduardo tells us…

“There is so much untapped talent in Latin America. These fighters are even more advanced than I thought. I thank Estrella TV for giving us the opportunity to do this because our goal is to bring Naciones not only to Latin America, but to the United States, Europe and all over the world.

Newly enshrined Hall of Fame boxer Floyd Mayweather will face Japanese mixed martial arts star Mikuru Asakura at a September exhibition in Japan, organizers announced Tuesday.

The former world welterweight champion, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday after retiring with an unbeaten 50-0 record, beat ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore in an exhibition in Abu Dhabi last month.

The date, location and rules for his fight against Asakura, a 29-year-old featherweight, will be announced later this month.

This will be Mayweather, 45,’s fourth exhibition and his second in Japan, after defeating kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa by TKO in just two minutes in December 2018, in a fight that was widely derided.

Mayweather called himself an “exhibition trailblazer” and promised to “put on a show” for fans when he returns in September.

“We’re going to treat him nice, we’re going to let him go three rounds, we’re going to let him try to land his shot,” Mayweather said of his opponent.

“I can’t let him land a punch, it’s all up to me, it all depends on what I want to do,” added the American, describing himself as “the puppeteer”.

Mayweather said his “legacy is already set in stone” after entering the Hall of Fame.

He retired from professional boxing in 2017 after beating UFC star Conor McGregor.

“It’s great to get into the Hall of Fame and what’s great is that I did everything on my terms,” he said.

“You look at so many champions and they can barely walk, they can barely talk. It’s not cool. The name of the game is hit and don’t get hit.

Asakura said he intended to “take this opportunity to elevate my name and my worth internationally.”
