Julianna Pena doesn’t want to be a ‘sex sales’ fighter

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena recently discussed his mentality towards his own brand and fight against the promotion ahead of his huge rematch against Amanda Nunes at UFC 277 in July 2022.

Nunes is considered by many to be the GOAT of women’s MMA, but Pena pulled off arguably the biggest shock in combat sports history in December 2021 at UFC 269 when she tapped Nunes to a choke at the ‘back.

Ahead of one of the most anticipated contests of 2022, Pena revealed why she wanted to promote herself in a “classic” way, as opposed to other mixed martial arts fighters.

Here’s what Julianna Pena had to say about her personal brand and fight promotion ahead of her rematch with Amanda Nunes at UFC 277.

Julianna Pena on the ‘Sex Sells’ promotion

Pena recently appeared on Barstool Chicago RebuildEd Podcastand she revealed that she had physical insecurities.

She said: “I think it’s (physical insecurities) helped me in a way, because it’s easy to strip down and sell something on Instagram and be this hot model, but I try to do it in a classy way where it’s like, I don’t have to take my clothes off for people to invest in what I do.

“So it’s almost like a thing that’s benefited me in another way as well, because I have a daughter and I want to set a great example for her. I don’t want her to be, in years , on Instagram and sees his half-naked mother.

“I’m not trying to punch anybody for doing this, you know, get your paper boo-boo, do what you gotta do.

“But for me, it puts me in a situation where I have to sell myself in a different way that isn’t about taking my clothes off and trying to be a person who sells sex.”

UFC 277 will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, and there will be a number of huge fights going on beyond the massive main event between Pena and Nunes.

Hopefully Pena and Nunes will be able to live up to their first battle and produce more magic in the octagon, with a more focused Nunes looking for redemption and regaining her champion status in the company. .
