A championshipis the king of light heavyweight and light heavyweight Reinier De Ridder concluded his tour of America after visiting many of the top gyms and trainers in the country.
“The Dutch Knight” began his excursion with a trip to Sanford MMA, where he was able to train with many athletes, including the man he dethroned for the ONE Light Heavyweight and Middleweight World Championships, Aung La N Sang.
De Ridder was able to learn under the Dutch legend Henry Hooft and fought with Tyrone Sponge as well.
The next stop on his tour was with American Top Team.
While at the famed gym, De Ridder posed with fellow superstars ONE Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida and ONE world flyweight champion Adrian Moraes.
And then De Ridder flew to Austin, Texas for his final leg, where he claimed to have ascended to “Jiu-Jitsu heaven” in an Instagram post.
“I’m not one to idolize people, but I’ve always admired what John Danaher and Gordon Ryan do in grappling. And they did not disappoint,” De Ridder wrote.
“Their technical ability and the way they approach techniques is something that every martial artist on the planet can learn from. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to travel the world and train with the best of the best and they really know who I am and welcome me with open arms.
While De Ridder has been able to have fun on the mats with various gyms and training partners, the expedition will pay off for his overall development. The two-division world champion continues to seek knowledge and expand his horizons.
It’s a tough thought for one of his challengers waiting for their crack at gold.
Already one of the best athletes in the world, De Ridder’s continued growth will make him an undeniable force as he shapes his legacy in the sport.
