UFC star Sean O’Malley responds to Dana White’s comments on fighter pay
UFC star Sean O’Malley has slammed fighters’ pay following Dana White’s bullish stance on the controversial subject.
The strawweight female candidate became emotional as she spoke of the ‘life-changing’ post-fight bonus amid her dire bank balance.
White responded by saying, “This is one of those sports that you have to win. If you win, it’s okay. If you lose, it’s all bad.”
However, O’Malley wondered why the first MMA organization is struggling to pay someone what they are worth.
Speaking on his podcast, the 26-year-old said via MMA Fight: “I don’t even know if I’m supposed to say this. I was talking to my manager and he was talking to Sean Shelby and Sean Shelby was mad at me.
“Dude, I don’t want to fight in New York. It’s far away, taxes are ridiculous, and Tim (Welch) doesn’t have any trials without Gi ADCC this weekend.
“He told me that before I even potentially fight. So that’s his thing and I’m not going to say, ‘No. I fight, we do. “
“Especially when I could fight like a month later in Vegas. And Sean Shelby was just like, crazy and like, ‘Alright. Go hang out with 6ix9ine.’
“I’m just acting like a fucking tool, man. I don’t know if I should have said that or not. But it’s like, man, come on. What are you doing?”
The UFC bantamweight added, “They don’t need me. The UFC would be 100% fine without me. If they want another huge giant star, I could definitely fill that role, but they don’t need me. But don’t treat me like that. Like, pretend I’m not training or nothing. ‘Come on, you’re hanging out with 6ix9ine, man.’
“Like, I dated him once. Well, three days. But yeah, so that’s like, cool, man. Treat me like shit. No, it’s like, man, I’d rather not not deal with him at all and just deal with Dana.
“I know you are going to ask for a lot of money. No, I’m pulling some fucking numbers, you can’t deny it.
“Why do they have a problem paying someone what they’re worth? That shouldn’t be a problem. It should be, like – especially when I blow up like that. Those last two fights, third round finishes , Brain Damage Remission You should be like, “Yeah, I’m gonna pay you a lot. You deserved it. “Dude, I has been UFC 264. “
