Usman vs. Edwards 2 has officially begun

Fight week is upon us, and the countdown to UFC 278: Usman vs. Edwards 2 has officially begun.

At UFC 278, Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards will bring their seven-year-old rematch to center stage inside Salt Lake City’s Vivint Arena. To prepare future spectators for this welterweight clash, the The UFC has released its official countdown video for the event.

Along with telling the story of the night’s headliners, the production team also gave the world a deeper look into the co-main event between former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and his opponent, Paulo “Borrachinha” Costa.

You can also relive the first fight between Usman and Edwards here and see Michael Bisping and BT Sport beat Leon Edwards ahead of UFC 278 here.

Below, you can get a preview of what’s in the video, followed by the full episode countdown and fight card.

“I see this fight going the same way the first fight went. In that first fight, 30 seconds more, I would have stopped Leon Edwards. And I see myself arresting Leon Edwards. – Kamaru Usman

In the countdown video, we see Kamaru Usman and his head trainer Trevor Wittman smash Leon Edwards and, more specifically, the first fight between the two welterweights. The champion’s ease and poise heading into this weekend’s big event is pretty evident throughout the episode.

“I really feel like I belong here. That’s my strength right now. ‘You belong here. You’ve worked hard for this. You deserve it.’ – Leon Edwards

The Countdown episode does everything possible to ensure that viewers are familiar with the story of Leon Edwards. They also explain how, in some ways, Edwards and Usman’s journeys so far have paralleled each other since their initial fight in 2015.

“I’m on a different level from Rockhold. He will face a monster. – Paulo Costa

In the Countdown video, we learn that Paulo Costa still does not lack confidence. All in all, the brawny Brazilian is letting the world know he thinks he will be too much for Luke Rockhold.

“Paulo Costa, I see him stepping forward, I see him getting hurt, I see myself taking advantage of it, then I see myself taking his soul.” – Luke Rockhold

The countdown video captures Luke Rockhold’s three-year absence from competition and the healing that comes with it. Now healthy and refreshed, Rockhold believes no man will erase his path to UFC gold.
