Yushin Okami and Aung La N Sang push for middleweight showdown
ONE Championship middleweights Aung La N Sang and Yushin Okami continue their fight for a match against each other.
The two veterans have been calling for a match on social media for over a year, and their calls for a showdown continued into the past week.
Okami called out former ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion Aung La N Sang in 2021, to which the Myanmar superstar replied that would be an honor. However, the match would not happen.
But Okami doesn’t give up. This week, the Japanese legend took to Instagram for another ‘Burmese Python’ caption, writing, “Let’s fight! Let’s decide who is the #1 Asian in the middleweight division.
Although both men have called the match, there is no bad blood between them. It’s more a match sought out of respect and admiration.
“When I thought about making a comeback to the middleweight division, the only fighter I wanted to fight was Aung La N Sang,” Okami told ONE in 2021.
“I knew him before coming to ONE, and I respected him. He was the middleweight and light heavyweight champion. His fight content was great and I was proud of him as an Asian.
And Aung La N Sang showed her admiration for Okami for leading the way he was able to follow.
It’s a match both middleweights want, and it looks like a great opportunity to deliver the exciting match. However, timing will be crucial, and it remains to be seen whether pen will find its way to paper.
Either way, a showdown between the two longtime stars would be a treat for Asian MMA fans.
